The market’s activity starts during the night time, when trucks deliver the fresh products of the area: an amazing assortment of fish and seafood, and a lot of fresh meat (beef, pork, chicken and the odd Monitor lizard or alligator).

Later in the day (6-7 in the morning) food vendors arrive with special breakfast food (Satay, rice, fruit and noodles snacks). The best hours to visit this market are between 06:00 to 08:00. You can take a walk on the small streets around the market. There’s always more food and fresh ingredients being sold there.

At about 11:00 the vendors are clearing the square and it’s being washed and cleaned for the upcoming afternoon/night markets.

This L-shaped market spans two streets: an open-air street that offers mainly prepared take-away food, and a roof-covered street section where mainly raw cooking ingredients are being sold.

The main street hosts most of the town’s afternoon activities (i.e. shopping). Most vendors arrive at about 15:30-:16:00 and stay till 19:30. This market is quite famous around Thailand for it’s huge variety of prepared food: dozens of curries, salads, pastry and deserts, special delicacies and classic Thai dishes. It also has an abundance of fruit, vegies and dry goods.

You can buy your dinner at the market and ask the staff at your hotel/guest house for plates and cutlery. Make sure you don’t forget to buy rice, to help you cope with all that spicy stuff. Be advised not to keep any cooked food for the next day. It won’t be as good.

Some shops at the market sell clothes, watches, fashion accessories, bags, umbrellas, rain coats, towels and other non-food related stuff, at very fair prices.

The night market borders the open-air street from the south, so you can buy some snacks here, then order dinner at a night market restaurant, and enjoy more variety. Owners of night market businesses don’t mind if you also bring food from outside as long as you also buy something there.

Krua Rimklong is a family-restaurant. It has a few garden tables, sorrounded by a wall of plants and protected from the rain by a large dome, and an air-conditioned room (for non-smokers. Smokers can sit in the garden after the meal). The English/Thai menu covers most of the popular Thai dishes, from green curry to jungle curry to fresh salads of beef or seafood, soups, noodles and a lot more.

Prices are at around 50-90 Baht a dish. The waiters speak English.

Opens at around 10:00 and operates until noon or early afternoon (14:00), when the chicken is sold out. Offers a very crispy fried chicken with whole garlic cloves in the batter, served with sticky rice and Isaan (north-eastern Thailand) style salads, like Laarb, som-tam (green papaya salad) and corn salad, made fresh when you order. As usual in Thailand, you can eat there or take away.

This is an open air market that opens every Thursday at around 15:00 and closes around 20:00.

The market attracts buyers and sellers from all around the province, and offers good deals for shoppers of all kinds, be it prepared or raw food, clothes, various tools, bed sheets, car accessories, flowers and plants, house ornaments, pets, Buddhist pendants, old pottery and more.

The market opens every Sunday at around 16:00 and closes at around 19:00. It’s an open air market that attracts residents of the area (Nong samet) and has a kind of rugged fill to it.

This is the place where you can sometimes find exotic delights like hand-made toffee, filled with roasted peanuts, or skewered roasted rats or a nice selection of toads and frogs. There are also vegetables stalls, fresh fish and meat, excellent Muslim cakes, wild orchids and other plants. Clothes and accessories. Near the open market there’s a roofed market that’s open every day, all day long, and sells household goods, stationary, tools etc.

Starting late afternoon, the square has food stalls with places to sit. You can also buy take-away food at the nearby afternoon market.

Early morning, there’s a cooking ingredient market in the same place.

The small square in front of the day market is the most central point in town. The main hall can be divided into entrance, middle and rear.

At the entrance they sell flowers, ornaments for spirit houses, cosmetics and fashion accessories. The middle area hosts quite a few restaurants and food stalls, coffee and fruit juice stands, vegetables and dry goods sellers. At the rear they sell fresh meat, fish and sea food and some more vegies.

Between the entrance and the middle there are stairs to a second floor, dedicated to clothes. Prices are more than fair. You can haggle if you buy a few items from the same shop, but in general, prices aren’t being pumped up for tourists.

Corridors

The main hall is between two corridors. The one to the left (when you enter) has shops on both sides, and some stalls in the middle. This is the place to buy household goods, bags and shoes, hammocks, cooking pots, hello kitty items and a lot more. The stalls in the middle sell mostly fruit, betel nuts for local chewers, and freshly made snacks.

On the right side of the market there’s a corridor, where noodles, curries, nam prik breakfasts and deserts are being sold. On that corridor you can also find ladies with sewing machines who can mend your torn clothes.
